Rugby union star shares message of support after father’s exit from Oldham RLFC

Last night, Oldham Director of Rugby, Mike Ford, confirmed via social media that he would be leaving the Roughyeds with immediate effect.

The news came less than an hour after the final whistle had blown in Oldham’s defeat to London Broncos, as Jason Demetriou’s side claimed a 25-8 victory.

Ford has been at the club since 2023, when he and Chairman Bill Quinn came into the club and started to turn things around.

The pair led the side from dwellers in League One to the Championship play-offs in such a short space of time, but as of late things have hit a roadblock, and a number of issues have started to surface from the club.

That has led Ford to a premature exit, and in his statement cited that the direction of travel of the club” is something that he disagrees with an cannot abide by.

Now, his son George Ford, has had his say on the matter, and the rugby union star left a cryptic message in support of his father.

Ford Jr currently plays for Sale Sharks, who are in the Gallagher Premiership and share the CorpArq Stadium with Salford RLFC.

In a post shared on X, formerly twitter, he said:

“Proud of everything you have done for the town and club of Oldham.”

“It’s a travesty it’s had to come down to this. Sport has a funny way of exposing the truth as to why things happen.”

“The team and people are always more important than an individual!”
