It was a result that very few rugby league fans were expecting, but Salford Red Devils’ second win of the season was a massive talking point over the weekend.
Despite George Lawler’s try just two minutes before the end for Castleford Tigers, it wasn’t enough for the visitors as strugglers Salford held on for the win.
However, it caused much debate online as rugby league fans across social media shared their thoughts following the Red Devils’ victory.
Many congratulated the Salford side, considering the rollercoaster season that they’ve had so far, whereas Castleford fans lamented their side for a lack of effort and desire, especially considering Danny McGuire’s sacking earlier in the week.
Here’s the best reaction from across our socials after Salford’s second win of the season over Castleford.
Rugby league fans react to Salford’s second victory of the season
Sean Thornley: Well done, Salford, dished out a lesson on what playing for your shirt looks like.
Tony McRoberts: Well played, Salford, you were brilliant, you played for each other, and you definitely deserved the win. Made up for Paul Rowley keeping the faith, great bloke and top coach. Warriors fan.
Phil Trout: Nothing to do with Chester, just the players. No fire, and no pride.
Sarah Stewart-Jones: Watched both managers interviewed post-match, and the Castleford interim Chris Chester needs some lessons from Paul Rowley on motivation, wow! Shocking, his tone was way off.
Jacqueline Ann: I was one of the first to criticise the decision to sign Chris Hill, but he earned his shirt today. I hold my hands up and doff my cap to Rowley; he knew what he was doing.
Joel Pickersgill: Better team 1-80, so happy for them! Lads who want to play rugby, simple!
Kevin Stephenson: Danny McGuire said it wasn’t a quick fix, and the board didn’t stand behind him and give him the time needed. Who’s going to want to coach them now?
Fred Moss: I have to say, after listening & watching Chris Chester on his after-game interview, he looked as though he couldn’t be bothered. Once again, our left edge defence was iffy.
Andrew Wright: We’ve had some poor teams in the Super League era, but this is very worrying. I never expected this!
Mark O’Hara: Player quality is the problem, not resilience
Lisa Ellam: Well done, Salford, Cas didn’t turn up.

At least fans on the whole were not as suspect as the media coverage.
