Rugby league fans share thoughts on 2025 League Leaders Shield race

Rugby league fans debate who will win the League Leaders Shield

Rugby league fans have had their say on the race for the 2025 League Leaders Shield race, with just ten full rounds of Super League to go.

Wigan Warriors’ loss to Leigh Leopards on Friday night means a four-point gap to the current league leaders Hull KR.

A victory for Rovers on Sunday afternoon over Leeds Rhinos would mean a six-point gap.

However, Super League and Rovers fans alike say it’s too early to hand the trophy to them, especially considering their run of games to come between now and the end of the season.

Most rugby league agree that the League Leaders Shield is an underrated trophy and should be held as a much bigger achievement compared to the Grand Final.

When asked if the race for the League Leaders Shield is now over, rugby league fans voiced their opinions and here are the best comments from across our social media.

Rugby league fans share thoughts on who will win the League Leaders Shield?

Shaun Michael: The RFL need to rethink this one. The team that tops the league, after an arduous campaign showing consistency, deserves more than a poxy shield. A worthy trophy needs commissioning as Super League Champions, and rename the Grand Final the Premiership Trophy or similar.

Gary Ede: Nothing has been won yet, except the Challenge Cup. We need to keep our heads down and our feet firmly on the ground, and treat each week like a Grand Final. We are in charge of our own destiny.

Shaun Jackson: The league leaders should receive the bigger trophy and praise for being the best team in the league, regardless of who is at the top. It is common sense!

Andy Ed: Yep. As a Wigan fan, we’re in a 3-way battle to retain 2nd. I actually hope Hull KR beats Leeds and Leigh now to give us some breathing space. Wigan need to consolidate and concede, we’ve gifted KR 1st with awful performances over the last month.

Richard Cawkill: Far too early to say anything has been won, apart from the Challenge Cup. Rovers need to keep grafting and grinding each week until it’s mathematically won. Then the celebrations can begin. Great teams never give up, and Wigan will never give up, Leigh and Rhinos are on the up also.

Danny Wise: No, only takes KR to have a bad patch and lose a couple, the gap can be closed in a couple of weeks.

Neil Hastings: No, we have 11 games to play, we need 10 more wins, nine if we can keep the points difference as it is. Then it’s done, and we can celebrate.

Philip Parker: Hull KR haven’t had their blip yet, most teams hit a bit of a losing period. I’m a Rhinos fan, but even if by chance we were to win, I still think Hull KR will be crowned league winners. They are the best team by a country mile.

Rob Prince: Rhinos this week, Leigh next week, and Wigan and Saints to play in the next few weeks. The league’s far from over, although we’re in a good place. Never say never in Super League, there have been a few surprises this year already. Although I’m confident and feeling good about Rovers, I don’t take our current league position for granted until the name’s printed on that trophy.

Graham Sykes: No, too many games left. We could get injuries and have a wobble. We just need to keep winning and not think it’s all done.
