Robins recall England stars as Hull KR confirm team news to face York Knights in Super League opener

Hull KR start their Super League defence with an away trip to new boys York Knights and the team news for Thursday night’s game is now in.

With the Robins set to face Brisbane Broncos next Thursday in the World Club Challenge before then jetting off to Las Vegas to play Leeds Rhinos, a Thursday night game at the LNER Stadium could seem tame in comparison but the game is trending towards a sell-out on what is a historic night for the Knights.

It will be the first game that York ever play in Super League, meaning the home fans are turning out in numbers, whilst the Hull KR fans are also travelling in numbers to North Yorkshire.

The Knights breathed a sigh of relief on Monday as hooker Paul McShane avoided any charge after a red card for fighting this past weekend so it’s actually the visitors, Hull KR, who have team concerns with Willie Peters revealing on Monday that new signings Tom Amone and Jordan Dezaria will miss out.

York Knights team news

The Knights left Cumbria on Saturday night having defeated Barrow handily and it appears they came through without consequence as Mark Applegarth has named an identical 21-man squad.

That means that Newcastle Thunder man King Vuniyayawa is loaned in again with the ex-Salford and Leeds Rhinos man having featured off the bench against Barrow.

York Knights 21-man squad: Toa Mata’afa, Ben Jones-Bishop, Sam Wood, Scott Galeano, Mafoa’aeata Hingano, Liam Harris, Jack Martin, Paul McShane, Paul Vaughan, Josh Griffin, Jesse Dee, Jordan Thompson, Denive Balmforth, Xavier Va’a, Justin Sangare, Danny Richardson, Oli Field, Kieran Buchanan, Jack Smith, Nikau Williams, King Vuniyayawa

Hull KR team news

The Robins rested their England internationals and Peta Hiku against Lock Lane on Friday but all of Joe Burgess, Mikey Lewis, Jez Litten, and Hiku are named in the 21-man squad for Friday with the Robins close to full strength.

There is no Tom Amone (broken hand) and Jordan Dezaria (hamstring) as previously confirmed but Sam Luckley, who is returning from knee surgery, has been named in a fitness boost for the Robins.

Other than that, there are no real surprises for Hull KR with the Robins naming a very strong 21-man squad that underlines why they are so fancied to have another brilliant year.

Hull KR 21-man squad: Arthur Mourgue, Tom Davis, Peta Hiku, Oliver Gildart, Joe Burgess, Mikey Lewis, Tyrone May, Sauaso Sue, Jez Litten, Dean Hadley, James Batchelor, Elliot Minchella, Jack Broadbent, Sam Luckley, Jai Whitbread, Rhyse Martin, Jack Brown, Karl Lawton, Noah Booth, Bill Leyland, Tom Whitehead
