Rugby League Commercial have released a statement to confirm that they have received an initial offer from the Australian Rugby League Commission regarding the possible investment and partnership with the NRL.
Dubbed as the sport’s ‘recapitalisation project’, the NRL have been interested in some form of investment into Super League for well over a year now but talks are expected to reach a head in the coming weeks and months, particularly in light of this confirmed offer.
Details of an offer emerged earlier in the week with the NRL reportedly set to invest $12 million per year over the course of five years, with each yearly investment set to see the Australian competition’s ownership share of Super League increase by 10%.
In theory, that would mean an investment of $60 million, or just over £31 million, across five years in exchange for shared ownership of Super League.
Whilst Rugby League Commercial have not confirmed any details, instead claiming that they remain confidential, their admittance of an offer just days after those reports makes for interesting timing.
A statement shared on the RFL website and by the Super League social media pages, read: “RL Commercial can confirm that a first offer has been received from the ARLC (Australian Rugby League Commission) as part of the sport’s recapitalisation project.
“The Super League clubs have been informed this morning.
“Details of the offer remain confidential.”
The NRL have already negotiated their TV deal for 2028 and beyond, however, Super League still does not have a deal in place for 2027 and that’s likely to be a key part of negotiations going forward, as well as what the composition of Super League looks like with London Broncos supported by Australian backers with NRL connections.
