Wakefield Trinity hosted Leeds Trinity in the first game of Super League round 20, with both sides wanting a win to move up the table.
It was Trinity who got the two points on the night, securing a 15-14 victory at the DIY Kitchens Stadium, thanks to a Mason Lino drop goal in the final minute.

A frantic and frenetic game for both sides
Both sides weren’t at their very best, with plenty of attacking play. Wakefield were probably the better side for the first 60 minutes or so, but Leeds did get a second wind during the second half. However, it was Trinity who got the last laugh with Lino’s drop goal, snatching them the win.
Croft sin-bin for a trip
Whilst trips aren’t the red card offence that they used to be, Brodie Croft was given a sin-bin in the 11th minute for a potential trip. Referee Chris Kendall explained that he had initially planted his leg but then lifted it, so he classified it as a trip.
Another Wakefield sell-out crowd
There’s no doubt that Wakefield are doing a great job off the field this season, with fans filling up their home games every time. With 9,250 at the DIY Kitchens Stadium in attendance, it’s their best attendance since 2013. Owner and chairman Matt Ellis has transformed the club since his arrival in 2023, and the players are delivering on the pitch too. The Trinity fanbase is so engaged with the club right now, and they’re a real asset to the league.
Trinity spine combining
When Wakefield’s spine is on, it’s one of the best in the league. Whilst Max Jowitt, Jake Trueman and Mason Lino might not be considered the best in their positions across Super League, they can be ruthless when they combine. Wakefield’s first try from Lachlan Walmsley went through all three of them before Walmsley scored on the wing. Lino’s drop goal in the dying seconds gave Wakefield Trinity the win too, and he’s been an unsung hero of many of their performances in 2025.
Connor’s HIA
Jake Connor went off for an HIA in the 48th minute after being smacked in the face by Leeds Rhinos teammate James Bentley in a tackle. As he walked off, he could barely see out of his right eye. However, because of the way this round is split over two weeks, he will be available for the Rhinos’ next fixture against Leigh Leopards on 7th August.
