RFL to ‘urgently’ meet as North Wales Crusaders withdraw from upcoming game

Championship

The Rugby Football League have shared a statement confirming an urgent meeting in regards the future of Championship club North Wales Crusaders.

North Wales recently shared a statement to confirm that the club’s owners would no longer be providing funding with other outlets reporting major financial issues at the Welsh club.

The Crusaders are the only Welsh rugby league club in the semi-professional space but their future is now under huge threat as they have now withdrawn from their upcoming Championship game, just a couple of weeks after forfeiting their 1895 Cup tie against Midlands Hurricanes.

North Wales did not play this past weekend as they were on bye anyway but a statement from the sport’s governing body has confirmed that the Crusaders are unable to fulfill this coming weekend’s fixture against Doncaster RLFC.

It’s a decision that understandably casts doubt on the chances of the club seeing the season out.

A statement from the RFL read: “North Wales Crusaders have informed the Rugby Football League they are unable to fulfill their Championship fixture with Doncaster RLFC due to ongoing issues.

“Friday’s game has now been postponed.

“The RFL Board will be urgently meeting to discuss the situation and the next steps.

In a statement, North Wales Crusaders said: “We apologise to all concerned, especially the supporters of both clubs.”

Doncaster also shared a statement as they apologised to supporters and confirmed that refunds will be credited to fans. They also wished well upon the Crusaders in their current financial plight and confirmed that further updates will come regarding the rescheduling of the game, or how it will impact the remainder of their season.

Bye, Bye to yet another Club.
Can the RFL get their act together?
Can the owners of clubs losing money stop spending what they do not have?
It is all the small businesses that bear the brunt. Does anyone really care?
Too many losers in this scenario………………..
