The Rugby Football League have confirmed that they have received a complaint relating to Leeds Rhinos fans’ conduct during their away win over Catalans Dragons.
Leeds played Catalans last weekend, winning with relative ease in a physical encounter at the Stade Gilbert Brutus as they kept up their strong run of form.
Just a few days after that victory, Leeds Rhinos then shared a statement reminding supporters of the need to refrain from unacceptable chanting.
That statement, shared on Wednesday, read: “Leeds Rhinos would like to remind all supporters to refrain from inappropriate and unacceptable chanting both at AMT Headingley and when travelling away supporting the club.
“Leeds Rhinos are proud of our supporters and want to ensure that we maintain our reputation. All supporters, whether at home or away, are governed by the RFL’s various Codes of Conduct and Regulation and inappropriate behaviour could lead to financial sanctions for the club. Thank you for your support and understanding on this matter.”
It’s now been confirmed to Serious About Rugby League’s sister site, The Yorkshire Evening Post, that the RFL have received a complaint about the behaviour of Leeds Rhinos’ fans.
A short statement from the governing body confirmed: “At the recent away match in Catalans a minority of Leeds fans engaged in a chant that related to the Second World War that has been condemned across sport as it is offensive to other nationalities.
“These types of chants are not welcome in a sport like rugby league that prides itself on inclusivity.”
It’s unclear if any further action will be taken though Leeds’ own statement reminding and urging fans not to engage in such chanting is in itself clear action from the club, with the Rhinos set to travel away again this week albeit a much shorter distance as they head to face Castleford Tigers on Sunday.

They are not “football idiots” they are just “idiots ”, who usually associate with football. If rugby league was the national sport, they would be “rugby league idiots”. Don’t blame the sport for the idiots who turn up.
