Just a day after it was reported that Castleford Tigers had signed St George Illawarra Dragons’ Tyrell Sloan, the outside back has limped off in his side’s NRL clash with an apparent hamstring injury.
Sloan has been a well-reported target of the Tigers with head coach Ryan Carr flexing his St George connections, having already signed Damien Cook and Mat Feagai ahead of the 2027 season.
The versatile Sloan was linked earlier in the year and it’s now been reported by Love Rugby League that the deal is done, with Sloan’s addition set to mean that one of the club’s contracted overseas players will leave.
That will be a headache that Chris Chester has to sort out but right now those at Wheldon Road will just be hoping that the injury for Sloan is not too bad.
St George led 6-4 at the half courtesy of Sloan’s try in the corner, however, he would leave the field just a few minutes after scoring to head down the tunnel for treatment.
As coverage resumed after the half, it was confirmed on commentary that Sloan would play no part in the second half.
The sideline reporter explained: “Disappointing news on Tyrell Sloan. He headed up the tunnel with a hamstring problem and I can confirm that he is gone for the game. It is his left hamstring and he is going for scans.
Sloan left the field just after the half hour mark with the injury sustained a few minutes earlier as he helped lead a kick chase before pulling up lame with what was an obvious hamstring issue.
Whilst he played on for a few minutes as St George readied a replacement, it’s still a concerning injury with hamstrings potentially up a 12-16 week recovery time, as was the case for Bevan French this season.
If that were the case, it would effectively end Sloan’s season meaning that the next time he plays would be in a Castleford Tigers shirt.
St George ran out as 24-10 winners in the end with Valentine Holmes scoring a second-half brace before confirmed Castleford Tigers signing Feagai scored in the final four minutes to seal the win.
