Released Hull KR prop signs with Championship club for 2026

A prop forward released by treble winners Hull KR has committed to a Championship club for the upcoming 2026 season.

Young forward Leo Tennison was allowed to leave the Robins in mid-November with Hull KR sharing a statement at the time of his exit confirming that the 21-year-old would be signing with another Super League club.

That hasn’t come to fruition with Tennison now being announced as a new signing for Championship side Newcastle Thunder.

Rovers’ statement back in November read: “Hull KR can confirm that Leo Tennison will depart the club ahead of the 2026 season for a new opportunity with another Betfred Super League club.”

It’s unclear what has happened since then for Tennison to end up signing with a Championship club as opposed to another Super League side, though that is the case with Newcastle Thunder confirming his signing ahead of the upcoming 2026 season.

Released Hull KR man signs with Newcastle Thunder

Tennison was part of the Hull KR squad that travelled to Amsterdam to take on York Knights in the 2025 pre-season but the academy product only made two top-flight appearances, once in 2023 and once in 2024.

The move to Newcastle will undoubtedly see him land more game time with the club stating that he will bring size to their pack.

A statement confirmed: “Newcastle Thunder are pleased to announce the signing of forward Leo Tennison, who joins the club ahead of the upcoming Betfred Championship season.

“The 21-year-old arrives from Hull Kingston Rovers, where he progressed through the academy system and gained valuable experience in a professional environment. Tennison adds youth, size and strong work ethic to Thunder’s pack as the club continues to build for the future.”

Newcastle Thunder head coach Graham Steadman said: “Leo’s come from a good system with high standards and has experience in the Betfred Championship through loan spells with Featherstone Rovers and Goole Vikings. I’m looking forward to seeing how he develops in our environment. He adds options to the pack we are building.”
