Oldham RLFC hit out at ‘negative and unhelpful speculation’ amid club sale as Bill Quinn status addressed

Championship club Oldham RLFC have labelled any suggestion that former chairman Bill Quinn is holding up the potential sale of the club as ‘negative and unhelpful speculation’, with the club’s directors sharing an update.

Oldham RLFC are one of several rugby league clubs feeling the financial pinch and they’ve been dealt another blow recently with their chairman Bill Quinn confirming that he will step away from the club due to ill health, but he still has to sell his shares.

It’s been reported that Quinn is unwilling to sell those shares to interested consortia, one of which features Jordan Turner and another with former coach Mike Ford, however, a club statement has now rubbished those reports in a message of reassurance to fans.

A statement penned by directors Jim Minton, David Bottomley and Simon Winnard, encouraged fans to attend Friday night’s game against Midlands Hurricanes before clarifying the status of the club’s sale.

“We just wanted to update you all and say that our former Chairman Bill Quinn is categorically not holding up any potential sale of ORLFC or the attraction of potential investors.

“The three of us are heavily involved – almost hourly and certainly daily – in meetings and negotiations with a number of consortiums who are well past the NDA stage and are currently involved in due diligence. None of those discussions are in any way dependent on our former Chairman.”

On Quinn and other speculation, they said: “Bill remains the club’s major sponsor and continues to provide facilities that ORLFC uses on a daily basis.

“Please do not give negative and unhelpful speculation the time of day. What we ask, as a group of people working hard behind the scenes to keep ORLFC running and secure a future for the club, is that you truly back us by buying tickets for tomorrow night.”
