NRL superstar Nathan Cleary reportedly offered multi-million pound contract to make shock Super League switch

Super League Wigan Warriors beat Penrith Panthers

Nathan Cleary has been tipped to make a Super League move by one of England’s greatest ever players, in a switch that would undoubtedly be the biggest in the competition’s history.

Cleary, who is out of contract at NRL giants Penrith Panthers at the end of the 2027 season, has been reportedly offered a move to the UK and a multi-million-pound offer has been put on the table.

Leeds and Great Britain rugby league legend Garry Schofield, has told media down under that Hull FC have tabled a deal for the NRL megastar, saying that a four-year deal has been sent, with Cleary set to receive £1 million per season.

FC cannot officially talk to the Penrith star until November 1 of this year due to NRL rules, however Schofield’s shock news was revealed on Fox League’s NRL 360 earlier today [Wednesday].

Journalist Ben Elias said: “This is from Garry Schofield… he says that Nathan Cleary has been offered £1 million a year for four years at Hull FC. That is big, big bucks. He’s certainly setting the level way up here.”

The show’s host, Braith Anasta, added: “That’s allegedly right, I believe it – and what it says is that he may go to November 1 and that’s big dollars. he wants to be closer to his missus, Mary Fowler.”

Cleary moving to the UK sounds almost impossible given his stature in the game, but with partner Fowler having a successful career in the Manchester City Women’s side, that could be a factor in the half-back’s decision making.

Rumours around the 28-year-old’s future have been circling for the past few months. Prior to the Ashes tour of England, he spoke to Australian media saying he is open to offers, wherever that may be.

“I’ve loved my time in Penrith, and it’s home to me,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald back in October.

“I’m quite open to things in the future. Maybe having something different, but for the time being, yeah, I can’t really see it happening.

“I’ve said it a few times, I’m open to things, and the last thing I want when I get to the end of my career is to have regrets. So yeah, we’ll see what happens.”

Oh well done FC. That will totally screw the transfer market for most clubs.
