PNG Chiefs signing breaks try record as London Broncos run riot in Championship round 19

Gairo Voro showed exactly why the PNG Chiefs have signed him for their inaugural NRL season in 2028 with the London Broncos playmaker setting two club records this weekend.

London continued their dominance of the Championship as they recorded a 16th win from 16 games and the records are continuing to fall, with Voro breaking the Broncos’ record for most points in a game and the most tries in a game.

He scored seven tries and added 16 more points from conversions to rack up a solo points tally of 44 in London’s 78-16 win over Hunslet RLFC, who fought valiantly against the far superior opposition.

Voro’s most dominant spell came between the 48th and 66th minute as he scored four tries with his seventh and final try coming in the 80th minute. Full-back Alex Walker also scored a hat-trick in the one-sided win with the Broncos now having racked up an incredible 1,021 points this season, an average of more than 63 points per match.

They sit four points clear atop the Championship with three club chasing behind on 28 points but only one of those played this weekend as Oldham beat Batley 20-14, with full-back Jack Walker making his 150th career appearance.

Widnes Vikings snapped their run of defeats as they beat Goole 52-0 to move fifth in the table whilst Salford RLFC were other big winners as they put 64 past North Wales and moved level on points with 10th-placed Batley.

That’s significant because the Championship will have a 10-team play-off system this year meaning that several clubs, even as low as 18th are still in the mix.

One side who cannot make the play-offs but did win this weekend was Halifax Panthers as they knocked off 18th-placed Swinton with a 30-22 win, with the Panthers now finally in the positive for points after a 12-point deduction earlier in the year.
