NRL half set for Super League switch on reported £240,000 wages

NRL coaching job up for grabs at Perth Bears

An NRL half is set to ‘quit his club’ and make a move to Super League for the 2026 campaign according to reports.

Canterbury Bulldogs playmaker Toby Sexton is set to join Catalans Dragons from 2026 with a two-year deal lined up according to The Daily Telegraph.

Sexton’s possible move was also reported by All Out Rugby League who previously suggested that Catalans’ recent NRL recruit Luke Keary will leave at the end of the season, cutting short his two-year deal.

With Keary’s exit apparently imminent, the French side have looked to the NRL once again to source their star playmaker and Sexton is the man selected.

The 24-year-old has been a regular for Canterbury, helping guide them to second in the NRL where they sit level on points with leaders Canberra Raiders.

Sexton has played in all 14 of the Bulldogs’ games so far, serving as the starting half-back in each one but he’s seemingly set for the exit door.

Toby Sexton set to swap NRL for Super League

Canterbury made the splash signing of teenage sensation Lachlan Galvin earlier in the year, swooping to sign him from Wests Tigers and that’s seen Sexton pushed down the pecking order for future plans.

Sexton is out of contract at the end of the year anyway and rival NRL clubs looked to be circling but former Warrington Wolves man Andrew Johns suggested Super League as an option.

Citing the likes of Jackson Hastings and Brodie Croft, both of whom won the Man of Steel award, Johns argued that Sexton should make the switch despite hailing his form with Canterbury.

Johns said: “For whatever reason some take longer to develop, and I think he’s really found his form at the Bulldogs.”

Despite finding that form and proving that he can be a starter of a team contending for silverware Down Under, he looks set to make the switch to the south of France for 2026.

It’s still unclear who will be the head coach in Perpignan next year with Joel Tomkins handed the reigns until the end of the season but no confirmed plan for 2026.

Per The Telegraph, Sexton has agreed to a two-year deal worth around $500,000, or £240,000, per season. An announcement can reportedly be expected after Friday’s game against Brisbane Broncos.
