NRL full-back Will Kennedy makes future call amid Super League links

Despite strong interest from Super League, Cronulla Sharks’ full-back Will Kennedy is set to remain in the NRL for the 2027 season.

Kennedy was off-contract at the end of the current season and it was reported that he was available for Super League clubs to sign, however, any noise of a move to England has been shut down with the 29-year-old signing a new deal at the Sharks.

A one-club man, Kennedy has committed to one more year with the Sharks with his current appearance total sitting at 145, having debuted in 2019 and truly broken through in 2020.

A statement from Cronulla confirmed: “The Sharks have extended the contract of Will Kennedy, with the talented fullback committing to the club for the 2027 season.”

It brings an end to Super League speculation with the full-back certain to have been on the radar of several clubs given his talent and consistency at the highest level.

Will Kennedy snubs Super League to re-sign NRL deal

Staying with Cronulla means a lot to Kennedy, who progressed through the club’s ranks before earning his NRL debut.

He said: “I’m very pleased to be staying here for another year. I started here in the SG Ball, I’ve come through the ranks, been lucky to play so many games and this club is a special part of me,” Kennedy said.

“I had a big preseason, my hard work and what I’ve put into the games has paid off, I’m happy with what the club has given me, and I want to repay them for that.”

He played in all 27 of the Sharks’ games last year, showcasing his durability, and general manager Darren Mooeny pointed to his consistency as a key reason for the new deal.

“Will is one of our most consistent performers week in, week out. He has been an integral part of our success over recent seasons, and we expect him to continue to play an important role for us moving forward,” Mooney explained.

“Will’s character, professionalism and dedication to our club is unwavering and we very pleased he has agreed to extend his time with us until at least the end of 2027.”
