Mikey Lewis tops Lance Todd trophy odds as Hull KR and Wigan Warriors star’s chances revealed

Despite not winning the Lance Todd Trophy last year when his kick won the Challenge Cup for Hull KR, Mikey Lewis is the favourite to be named Man of the Match in Saturday’s final against Wigan Warriors.

Hull KR defeated Warrington Wolves 8-6 in last year’s final with Marc Sneyd named Man of the Match, as the Wire playmaker picked up his third Lance Todd Trophy, albeit the first when playing on the losing side.

Lance Todd Trophy winners for losing teams are a rarity but they do happen with Huddersfield’s Chris McQueen another recent example when the Giants lost to Wigan Warriors in 2022.

With a close game expected at Wembley on Saturday, it would not be a surprise to see the Man of the Match hail from the losing side but it’s Mikey Lewis who has been made the favourite to claim the individual award, with Hull KR also favourites to win the match.

No stranger to stepping up in big games, Lewis won the Rob Burrow Trophy in last year’s Grand Final after his incredible display against Wigan and he’s been priced at 4/1 by cup sponsors Betfred to be crowned Man of the Match in Saturday’s final. Interestingly, Mikey Lewis was priced at just 3/1 for last year’s prize, highlighting how strong Hull KR were as favourites.

It’s no surprise that the names dominating the top of the betting are all spine players with Tyrone May (11/2) and Jez Litten (7/1) representing Hull KR, whilst Bevan French (6/1) is the shortest of any Wigan player despite fears he may not play.

French has been named to Wigan’s 21-man squad but the half-back is back around one month early from his hamstring injury, so it could be that his inclusion is all part of Matt Peet’s mind games.

If French does not play then both Harry Smith and Jack Farrimond at 7/1 will be live chances, whilst Jai Field has been priced at 15/2 with his full-back counterpart, Jack Broadbent, 12/1.

Liam Farrell would become the oldest ever Lance Todd Trophy winner if he won, with the aforementioned Chris McQueen the current oldest at 35 years and 81 days. Farrell, who needs one try for his 150th in cherry and white, can be backed at 25/1.
