Mikey Lewis a ‘bad loser’ as Jon Wilkin slams Hull KR star after petulant act

Jon Wilkin has hit out at former Man of Steel winner Mikey Lewis after the Hull KR star appeared to headbutt Warrington’s Adam Holroyd in his side’s heavy defeat.

Hull KR would go on to lose 34-12 but the major incidents of the game revolving Mikey Lewis came at 10-0 down and 32-6 down, with only one of the incidents resulting in him being sin binned.

That latter incident saw him hit Ewan Irwin late after the pass had been made, the same offence that saw his Hull KR teammate Peta Hiku sin binned and ultimately banned last week, with Lewis now in real danger of missing the derby next week because of a ban.

If he isn’t charged for that then he may well be charged for an incident that was missed by the officials in the first half when he appeared to headbutt Adam Holroyd after the Wire man knocked on.

That became a major talking point after the game with Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin among those to assess it as he took aim at Mikey Lewis.

“Stupid. Petulant,” Wilkin said of the headbutt incident.

“Do you know what that is? That’s just being a bad loser. You’re being a bad loser. It’s not going well for him.

“I think it’s embarrassing. He’s an international player. It’s just not good. It’s average. It’s beneath him now.

“He’s one of our best players. You’ve got to be humble enough as a player and I was bad at it, we all have days where we’re bad at it, but you’ve got to be humble enough to take a defeat and just take it on the chin.”

Wilkin added: “We’re emotional people. We get it wrong. What I feel like when I’m watching Hull KR and I’m watching them today is they are so in their own heads.

“They almost have this psychic connection between them all. They were connected in every sense, mentally, physically, how they played, and that is such an individual action for Mikey and he wasn’t on his own.

“We had individuals coming up with really average defensive players that tried to solve all of their issues as individuals, not as a collective, and that was their superpower.”
