Max Jowitt makes bold Wakefield Trinity silverware claim as new signings and Daryl Powell impact hailed

Wakefield Trinity star Max Jowitt hopes that his side will be competing for silverware in 2026, as they look to improve on their sixth placed finish this season.

The full-back, who made his senior debut for the club in 2014, was one of the many players in the team who surpassed expectations this year, with him playing a big role in Trinity’s play-off finish at the first time of asking.

Wakefield are preparing to go even further this year though, with Jowitt having his sights fully set on bringing a trophy home in the upcoming campaign.

In an interview with club media giving his thoughts on pre-season so far, the 28-year-old revealed the team are progressing well, with the new signings in the group fitting in seamlessly

He said: “[It’s been] really good. The past four weeks have been rough, but the lads have bought into what we started year in our first season back in Super League…

“From day one, a few of the [new recruits] came in a little bit earlier than we said, just to do a couple of sessions here.

“Everyone’s ripping in… Jack Sinfield, he’s been class. Tyson’s fit in really well.

“We’ve just introduced the lads back from internationals this week, and I think training has gone up another level.”

Wakefield Trinity gunning for trophies in 2026 says Jowitt

The last time Wakefield won a trophy in the top flight was in 1993, as they emerged Yorkshire Cup winners. The last time they won a Challenge Cup or a division title though, was in the 60’s, a stat that Jowitt and his side are hoping to break this year.

“I’m excited to see what we can bring to the league next year, and hopefully we can finish higher than sixth,” he said.

“[We want to] look to win some silverware really. I think that’s the main aim. If you’re not challenging to be at the top then what are you challenging for.”

Trinity have had a huge resurgence in recent year’s with head coach Daryl Powell being a key part of that rise, both on and off the field.

Jowitt has been in the team for over a decade, but since the former Leeds, Castleford and Warrington boss joined the club ahead of the Championship year in 2023, he can tell that the level of the club have, and will keep progressing.

He said: “He’s been top class. I think it’s just gone up another level since Matt [Ellis] and his family have come in and taken over. The professionalism has gone through the roof, to be honest.

“The stuff that they are putting on for us, in terms of the food and a players room and a recovery room, a players room. It’s just making us better out on the pitch. The lads appreciate everything they do for us, and we need to give back on the pitch.
