Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has issued an injury update after his side’s narrow win over rivals St Helens at Super League Magic Weekend, with Nathan Lowe the major point of concern.
Lowe left the field in the first half of Wigan’s 16-14 win over Saints with the winger suffering a hamstring injury that ultimately required the game to be stopped as a stretcher was brought out to help treat him.
Playing in just his second senior game for Wigan Warriors, Lowe found himself tackled into touch and both sets of players immediately made it clear that something was not right as the medics were urged to treat him.
Given that he was effectively in touch, medics tried to walk him back to the dressing room but Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks reported that every time the youngster stood up, his blood pressure would rise and he would faint, thus a stretcher was called out.
“He’s a tough kid, I feel for him,” Matt Peet said post-match with quotes shared via the Wigan Warriors website.
Confirming the hamstring injury, Peet explained: “He’s probably just been a little too brave for his own good there, damaged his hamstring. I’ve not seen him since the end of the game, but I think he’ll be alright – he’s a tough kid.”

Lowe was not the only Wigan player to suffer a hamstring injury in what was a brutal game as Peet also confirmed that second-rower Junior Nsemba appears to have suffered a hamstring injury too.
“I don’t know how severe either of them are,” he explained, though given the difficulty that Lowe found himself in, his may well be more severe.
So many injuries, both before the game and during it, meant opportunities for young players and Peet spoke of his pride for all of his team, particularly those young talents.
Peet admitted: “It was an unusual game. Proud of the lads, all of them.
“The young players deserve a mention – Shea [O’Connor], Taylor [Kerr], Kian [McDermott], and Nathan [Lowe] started the game. Players playing out of position, overcoming adversity, it was one of them. Not a pretty game, but we got the job done through our character and because we’ve got a tough group of lads. We take the two points, pat the lads on the back and move on.”
The win sees Wigan move to second in the Super League table, just four points behind Leeds Rhinos, and level on points with Warrington, who they will host on Friday night.
