Luke Robinson expresses frustration with officials following Huddersfield Giants loss to Leigh Leopards

Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson on the sidelines

Huddersfield Giants head coach Luke Robinson shared his frustrations post-match regarding the officiating of his side’s games in recent weeks.

The Giants were 28-6 down before three tries in the final quarter of the game saw them close down a victory, but it was too little, too late for Robinson’s side.

However, the Huddersfield boss pointed out that his side might not be having the luck when it comes to officiating lately.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, he said: “I don’t know what it is about us, we don’t seem to get a penalty, so I probably need to go and address that with people above my head really.

“I don’t think we got a penalty until the 55th or 60th minute. Last week, we didn’t get a penalty in the first half until right at the very end.

“At the end there, I’ll have to watch it back, but sometimes when the luck’s not going your way, it’s not going your way.”

Luke Robinson believes he’s the right man to take Huddersfield Giants to the next step

Whilst he was proud of his team’s performance, it’s still a bitter pill to swallow as the Giants came so close to grabbing what would’ve been just their second victory in Super League this season and their first at home.

He added: “It’s very difficult to take, though. I thought they showed a lot of fight, they showed the fans and the club that they’re still willing to work really hard for each other.

“It would’ve been very easy for them to go into their shell again and give up at 20-odd points down. They didn’t, and they kept fighting to the bitter end.

“I’m really disappointed, and when they look back on it, if we’d have shown a little bit more resolve on our goal line, then I think we might’ve got the win.”

The Huddersfield Giants boss still believes that he’s the right man for the job and hopes that with returning players, his team can finally kickstart their season, despite being halfway through already.

He finished: “We showed signs there. With Tui (Lolohea) back in the side, playing alongside Clune and George, he (Flanagan) showed some really good touches.

“Now we’re starting to click and get some training under our belt, I feel like we can finish really strongly in the second half of the year.”

Huddersfield Giants next face reigning champions Wigan Warriors at home on Saturday 14th June.
