London Broncos run riot as Championship record set in 25-try rout

London Broncos continued to prove that they are a Super League-level side playing in the Championship as they broke a 131-year record on Sunday.

The Broncos ran out as 134-0 winners over North Wales Crusaders, a side that underwent serious financial issues and lost the majority of their squad as they shipped 100 points or more for the third time this season.

For the Broncos, crossing 100 points isn’t unfamiliar with Jason Demetriou’s side having already hit that milestone this year, but Sunday’s victory represented the largest ever winning margin in the top two flights of professional rugby league in England, since the sport’s creation in 1895.

Their 25-try tally was also a record, with centre Brandon Webster-Manfield scoring five and Wakefield Trinity loanee and ex-Hull KR winger Neil Tchamambe being one of two players to score four tries.

Gairo Voro racked up an impressive 28 points through ten conversions and two tries, whilst fellow Papua New Guinean stars Morea Morea (four) and Finlay Glare (one) both got on the scoresheet.

Elsewhere in the competition, Newcastle Thunder did their best to keep pace with London as they won 52-6 against Hunslet to remain in second, whilst Barrow Raiders took advantage of Oldham not playing to move third with a 56-12 win over Workington.

Widnes Vikings continued their strong run as they beat Dewsbury 46-0 but at the other end of the table, Swinton Lions lost to Halifax Panthers by just two points though the Panthers remain in 19th thanks to their previous points deduction.
