London Broncos’ Papua New Guinean star at heart of NRL bidding war

One of London Broncos’ Papua New Guinean stars is reportedly hot property with two NRL clubs interested in his services.

Gairo Voro, London’s 22-year-old playmaker, is a man in high demand according to The Australian, who have reported that the Kumuls international is subject to interest from the two incoming NRL expansion clubs.

Perth Bears will join the NRL next season as an 18th NRL side, however, they will be quickly followed by a 19th with the PNG Chiefs set to enter in 2028.

According to reports, Voro is highly thought of by both clubs with London possibly facing the fate of losing another of their recruits to an NRL expansion club. Before a ball was even kicked this season, it was confirmed that Perth Bears had signed Luke Smith and Emarly Bitungane for their 2027 launch.

Unlike with Smith and Bitungane, the Broncos now find themselves fighting off not only Perth but also PNG in their bid to keep hold of the star talent.

London Broncos star has ‘all the natural talent to make it in the NRL’

Voro, who has previously drawn comparisons to NRL star Jarome Luai on account of his play-style as well as his flowing locks and scrum cap, has made four appearances so far for the Broncos.

He’s impressed during that time and head coach Jason Demetriou had no issues talking up the fact that Voro can be an NRL star in the future, telling The Australian: “Gairo has serious talent, he can really play.”

Demetriou continued: “One of the reasons I brought him over to England was to help his development because he has all the natural talent to make it in the NRL.

“He has already fitted in really well over here and I would love to see him playing for PNG in the NRL.

“Gairo is precisely the type of kid that can benefit from a PNG team in the NRL.”

Voro, 22, came through with the PNG Hunters in the Queensland Cup, debuting in 2024 before making 19 appearances in an impressive 2025 season. That and his exploits so far on the the international stage and at London are what have made him such a hot prospect.

He’s reportedly on the ‘hit list’ for the PNG franchise that joins the NRL in 2028 but Mal Meninga’s Perth are also keen and could well get the jump given the fact they enter the NRL a year earlier.
