Leigh Leopards signing makes bold claim as prior Super League interest revealed

Leigh Leopards signing Jacob Alick-Wiencke has spoken ahead of the 2026 season, about which he’s made the very bold claim that Adrian Lam’s side could win the treble.

Whilst the treble has been won the last two seasons, Wigan Warriors in 2024 and Hull KR in 2025, Alick-Wiencke should maybe be reminded that it’s still a rarity and has happened just five times in the Super League era.

Despite that, he’s touted the Leopards as contenders to claim the treble, insisting that it is the “main goal” when speaking to The Leigh Journal.

The 26-year-old second-rower has signed from Gold Coast Titans this off-season but he’s already seen enough in training to think that the treble is a viable target.

He admitted: “It is a big word to throw out but that’s our main goal.

“From seeing training, we have the squad and the talent to be there. We can go all the way.”

Leigh Leopards signing explains Super League move

Leigh finished third in 2025, making it to the semi-finals of both the Challenge Cup and the Super League play-offs, but they’ve strengthened once again in the off-season so perhaps treble talk isn’t as unrealistic as it may seem.

Adam Cook has arrived from Canberra to play alongside Lachlan Lam in the halves whilst Liam Horne will help support Edwin Ipape and also be an option out of loose forward, with Oliver Polec and Innes Senior the Leopards’ other recruits.

Alick-Wiencke explained to the Leigh Journal what fans can expect of him, stating: “I like to think I have got a bit of X-factor about my game.

“Leigh have a lot of strike players so I will be looking to fit into that and bring something a bit different to what they perhaps have seen in previous years.”

The 26-year-old also revealed that Leigh weren’t the first Super League side to show interest in him with the Papua New Guinean international knocking back prior offers with Hull FC, Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants all previously interested per the Leigh Journal.

Alick-Wiencke explained: “I have always had an interest in Super League from about the age of 22 onwards but it was alll about timings rather than the deals.

“I wanted to give myself more time in the NRL to work my way into a starting spot or the first 17.

“I always put that as plan A but it hasn’t quite worked out so being a fringe player in the NRL for so many years, I thought coming over here to play consistent first grade football would be in my best interests going forward.”
