Leigh Leopards sign St Helens talent on long-term deal

Leigh Leopards have confirmed their latest signing with a forward recruited from St Helens on a three-year deal.

Recently Leigh have confirmed a spate of new contracts with Lachlan Lam being the headline retention but they’ve also made moves in the recruitment market with NRL forward Jacob Alick-Wiencke announced as their first signing.

The Papua New Guinean international joins from Gold Coast Titans on a three-year deal and now the Leopards have confirmed the signing of another forward on a three-year contract, with Oliver Polec making the switch to Leigh.

Polec will turn 19 tomorrow (Monday 13th October) and swaps St Helens for Leigh Leopards with the forward having been part of the Red Vee’s scholarship and academy.

His performances in 2025 saw him earn a call-up to represent Lancashire in the Academy Origin game and Leigh will be hoping that they can nurture and further his development across the next three years.

Leigh Leopards sign teen from St Helens with eye on future

Polec is a signing made with an eye on the future and that’s something that CEO Neil Jukes noted, stating: “Whilst we’re working hard as a club to bring in players who can instantly strengthen our 17, it’s also important to have one eye on the future and that’s definitely the case with Oliver.

“He’s a young lad with all the right assets to really be a success in the game so we’re thrilled to bring him on board.”

Adrian Lam had labelled the 18-year-old as a ‘great addition’ to the Leigh squad with the Leopards boss adding: “He is still a very young front row forward with plenty of potential. He is still learning his trade and I feel strongly that being in our system will help catapult him to the next level.

“Ollie is a competitor, an explosive and direct ball carrier. We are all looking forward to him joining our squad and watching him develop and grow over the next couple of years.”

Polec said: “I’m delighted to have signed for Leigh Leopards. I’m really looking forward to working with Adrian Lam and the rest of the coaching staff. I feel this is a great opportunity for me to push myself to the next level and progress my career with a great Super League club. I am excited to get started.”
