Leigh Leopards launch search to fill ‘high-profile position’ with job demands outlined

Leigh Leopards

Leigh Leopards have launched the search for a new high-ranking member of staff at the club with all details and requirements revealed.

The Leopards, who recorded their highest-ever finish in Super League last season when they placed third, have become a true title contender since their promotion to the competition in 2023.

That 2023 season was the year the club rebranded from Centurions to Leopards and it’s fair to say it’s been a roaring success, landing the Challenge Cup in ’23 and then making the play-offs in each campaign whilst gradually improving league standing.

Adrian Lam’s impact at the club as well as the financial backing of club owner Derek Beaumont have been essential but for much of those three years, the club also had Chris Chester as their director of rugby, until he made the switch to Castleford Tigers last season.

It now seems that Leigh are recruiting a replacement of sorts with the Leopards advertising for the role of ‘Head of Rugby’ and the requirements for that job have been outlined.

Whilst the job advert makes no reference to this role being a replacement for Chris Chester, many of the roles described in the job cross over with what Chris Chester did.

Describing what the role entails, Leigh said: “The Head of Rugby is a high-profile position at Leigh Leopards, who have been the third best performing team in Super League over the last three years.

“This important and coveted role is a multi-faceted one requiring a wide skill set.”

It calls for leadership skills and a ‘wide knowledge of rugby league both in the UK and worldwide’, with the role set to report to the owner and CEO of the club.

Recruitment was also noted, with a ‘key element of the role’ being “to actively contribute to recruitment and lead / monitor a strategy while working within the parameters of the RFL Salary Cap regulations.

“Knowledge of the Salary Cap regulations and recruitment processes and negotiating skills is essential.”

There has been a recent spate of former players taking on such roles with Richie Myler at Hull FC, Jamie Jones-Buchanan becoming the CEO at Leeds Rhinos and Ryan Brierley becoming CEO of the newly-formed Salford RLFC.

Details of the role and how to enquire can be found here.
