The reported exit of Chris Chester from Leigh Leopards has been confirmed with a new role at another Super League already being linked.
It was reported earlier in the week by All Out Rugby League that Chester would walk away from the Leopards after having initially joined Leigh in 2021.
Chester had served as the club’s Director of Rugby with much of the brilliant recruitment done in recent years a direct result of him, including signings such as Edwin Ipape, Tom Amone, Kai O’Donnell and John Asiata, as well as the appointment of Adrian Lam.
The Leopards boss was asked about those reports midweek during his presser and he denied any knowledge but paid tribute to the job that Chester had done during his time with Leigh.
“I’m not too sure officially what I can say on it,” Lam explained, adding: “All I know is I played with Chris Chester as a player and I’ve worked with him, what we’ve done here collectively as a group has been unbelievable.
“The journey has been unbelievable. I’m not sure officially what’s out there but we’re still great mates regardless of what ends up happening.”
Chris Chester leaves Leigh Leopards and linked to Super League rival
Ahead of Leigh’s game against Catalans Dragons to open up Super League Magic Weekend, Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks has broken the news that Chester has left the Leopards.
“Chris Chester has indeed walked away from the Leigh Leopards this week,” revealed the Australian.
She added: “He said that he felt that he had taken the club as far as he possibly could.
“He says that he does love the game and is hoping to stay involved in come capacity. He has already been linked with that same position at Castleford Tigers so we will wait and see what happens there.”
It was also confirmed that Castleford Tigers owner Martin Jepson had activated the purchase of more shares in the club meaning he now takes complete control as the club look to build under his ownership.
