Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam gave his verdict after his side snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Warrington Wolves.
Overturning a 14-2 deficit, Owen Trout crowned his 100th Super League game with a match-winning try as he crashed over to the delight of those in the Leigh Sports Village. That score made it 20-16 and pushed the Leopards within one point of Wigan Warriors in second.
Trout’s game-winner came just minutes after Umyla Hanley scored to give Leigh hope with the centre scoring twice in the final 15 minutes to help set up the win.
The first of those tries was somewhat controversial, given on field and then approved by the video referee. Pundit Sam Tomkins assessed it as a score that would not have been given by the video referee had it not been given on field, highlighting just how close the margins were.
Thankfully for Leigh and Adrian Lam, referee Liam Moore gave it and Marcus Griffiths signed off on it, with the Leopards’ comeback starting after that score.

Speaking post-match on Sky Sports, Adrian Lam found it difficult to express his feelings with the Leopards boss having felt frustrated for large parts of the 80 minutes.
He explained: “Honestly, I can’t remember what happened. I was just so caught up in, I suppose, the negative emotions because of the way that we played that I don’t even know what happened in the two or tries leading up to the last one.
“I’m grateful, obviously, because of the belief that is within the group. To be able to do that when we had nothing go our way the whole game and with the amount of errors.”
Talking more about the player’s internal belief, he revealed: “At half time, I was really angry and frustrated and they all sat and just said ‘Chill out coach, it’s alright, we’re going to be okay’. That’s a positive, the belief in the group and I just love the way that we found another level when it counted most in that last three or four minutes.
“Just watching people run harder and get more involved when it mattered most is inspirational.”
Most important from the win is the fact that Leigh were poor for large parts but managed to win, something that we’ve already seen land Hull KR silverware against Warrington earlier this year.
As such, Lam admitted that it’s a result that could define the club’s season as they chase their highest-ever Super League finish.
He said: “I can’t get my head around it but I guess in the season that we’re having, one of those games like that can certainly define your season and where you finish.
“Hopefully that might come into count when it counts most at the end of the season.”
