Leigh Leopards boss Adrian Lam was proud of his side’s resilience following another tough victory in Super League over Catalans Dragons.
The Leopards have won their last two games by four points apiece, but even with a 26-12 scoreline, the win was harder than that shows.
It was only in the final fifteen minutes or so that Leigh turned up their attacking powers following Tevita Pangai Jr’s sin bin and a challenging game in such hot weather.
Talking to Sky after the game, Lam said: “It’s a difficult challenge to come here and get the two points.
“I thought we made it tough for ourselves at times, but we hung in there, were resilient and found a way, so I’m really proud of that.”
Momentum definitely shifted with Pangai Jr’s yellow card, as prior to that, it was a game that could’ve easily become a Catalans victory.
However, the Leigh Leopards boss was proud of his team for sticking it out against a vastly improved Dragons side.
He added: “I thought there were defining moments in that game where it probably could’ve gone either way, but we seem to be winning those big moments a the moment, which is a big part of being where we are on the ladder.
“I think we go to third today now. It had a semi-final feel about it from where I was sitting, the ground was really hard, it was hot, so that was the challenge, but I thought Catalans turned up and played probably their best rugby of the whole season.”
A tough fixture list lies ahead for Leigh Leopards
Up next for Leigh Leopards is another away tie against Leeds Rhinos before home games against Wigan Warriors and Hull KR.
Facing the three other teams in the top four is a challenge that Lam and his side are ready for, wth a fully fit squad and a season that’s generally gone under the radar by pundits.
He finished: “I think everyone in the top six plays each other, so we’re all in a similar situation anyway, but it’s in our hands now.
“We’re probably in a position at the club that we’ve never been in, close to the top, but we want to set our sights above, and those games will come in the next few matches, so we’re looking forward to that.
“We’ve got our strongest team out there today, or an opportunity to pick our strongest team, so that was good for us to be able to get that game out of the way and hopefully build some momentum now moving forward.”
