Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has reacted following his side’s dominant win over Wakefield Trinity to make it to the Super League play-off semi-finals, whilst also giving his short verdict on the reports that son Lachlan Lam was placed on report for ‘unacceptable language’.
Playing in front of a home crowd of over 10,000 in their first ever home Super League play-off, Leigh cruised to a 26-10 win with the scoreline probably not doing the Leopards justice.
They led 18-0 at halftime after absolutely dominating the territory battle and despite Wakefield scoring first in the second stanza, Leigh showed resolve and managed to extend their lead as they booked a semi-final against Wigan Warriors.
Crossing the borough next Friday, Leigh will fancy their chances based on that performance and Adrian Lam gave his immediate thoughts post-match on Sky Sports as he hailed the “great achievement”.
“It’s obviously a great achievement from the group, giving ourselves the same opportunity as we had last year, and we’re now 80 minutes away from Old Trafford.
“It’s been a long season, but a nice way to finish our last home game here tonight like that.
“I thought we managed that second half and just got through it in good shape. I didn’t get the rotations the same just to save a few bodies but I was happy with that.”

Lam was able to rest bodies, namely Edwin Ipape, in the second half due to how dominant the Leopards were in the opening 40. They might not have piled the points on but they put miles on Wakefield’s closk that they couldn’t recover from.
Reflecting, he said: “I thought the first half was just fantastic and I was proud of that. We’ve got a lot of fans here that wanted a positive result and there was a lot to play for, for the fans, but most importantly the group.”
One cause for concern from the game was the fact Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks reported Lachlan Lam as being on report, despite initial commentary naming Gareth O’Brien as the man on report.
Asked about his son’s disciplinary issue, Adrian Lam responded: “I don’t know what that is at the moment, what the report’s for, but I’ll find out about it and we’ll see what that means and we’ll go from there.”
The Match Review Panel will rule on Monday and more clarity will come regarding whether it was Lam or O’Brien, with both men pivotal to Leigh’s success.
If either is to be banned for the game against Wigan then it would be a huge blow and looking ahead to Wigan, Lam explained that he had no preference of being the battle-hardened side or the rested side, as Wigan are.
“I think you’ve just got to play the cards that are in front of you at the moment,” he explained, noting: “We’ve got a seven-day turnaround, so I’ll let the rest of the boys up.”
As for why 2025 could be different, with Leigh having lost to Wigan in last year’s semi-finals, he explained: “It’s a completely different group, I think, and we needed to change that group to take that step forward.
“We’ll see how we measure up next week, but they’ll be ready to play and physical and we’ve got to do things we’ve never ever done to get what we want. It’s going to be a physical game and we’ll look forward to it.”
