Leigh Leopards announce first pre-season friendly of 2026 with Super League opposition lined up

Leigh Leopards are preparing to match, if not better the club’s best-ever finish to a campaign, as they look to remain in the top three of Super League.

The club’s third place ranking at the end of 2025 is the highest they have ever ended a season in their history, with Adrian Lam working wonders at the club, taking them from Championship Grand Final winners in 2022 to Super League semi-finalists two years in a row.

The Leopards will be hoping that 2026 is just as successful, and after announcing their first pre-season game of the year, they will certainly be hoping to start it on the right foot.

Leigh will take on Warrington Wolves one week before the campaign kicks off, with Lam’s side set to take on Sam Burgess’ Warrington Wolves on Friday 30th January as they travel to the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Every rugby league pre-season friendly to take place ahead of 2026

With the game being scheduled as such, it means that both sides will essentially head into the year a week earlier than most, with the third round of the Challenge Cup taking place a week after, and the regular Super League season commencing the week after that.

It will be the first chance for Leigh fans to see their new signings in action, with the likes of Adam Cook and Jacob Alick-Wiencke getting their first run-outs for Leigh, whilst the Warrington faithful could have already seen their newbies in Primrose and Blue, with the Wolves having a warm-up game announced against Widnes Vikings earlier in the month.

It is not the first time these two sides have met in pre-season with the two going at it in recent years, with Wire pair Toby King and Joe Philbin both having testimonial fixtures against Leigh in recent years.
