Leeds Rhinos v Warrington Wolves team news as long-term absentee returns for Brad Arthur

Leeds Rhinos

Fresh off their Challenge Cup defeat to Hull KR, Warrington Wolves face Leeds Rhinos in Super League action with the team news now confirmed.

Warrington were just minutes away from lifting silverware but a late Tom Davies try condemned them to a second straight loss at Wembley whilst weekend’s opponents Leeds Rhinos lost three Challenge Cup Finals on the spin from 2010 to 2012, with Wire winning two of those matches.

This current Leeds Rhinos side has not yet made a final but they’re progressing very well under Brad Arthur and they currently sit in third place in Super League.

That’s a stark contrast to Sam Burgess’ side who sit eighth in what has effectively become a nine-team leading pack, with the likes of Castleford, Huddersfield and Salford cut adrift.

A loss at Headingley could see Warrington four points shy of the play-off and facing an uphill battle for the second half of the season.

Leeds Rhinos team news

Andy Ackers makes his long-awaited return for Leeds Rhinos with the hooker absent since the game against St Helens in mid-March.

There is also a return for Alfie Edgell after he suffered a shoulder injury at Magic Weekend, also against St Helens.

Ethan Clark-Wood and Presley Cassell are the two men to make way for Edgell and Ackers with Ackers a chance at returning on the bench behind Jarrod O’Connor.

Leeds Rhinos 21-man squad: Lachie Miller, Harry Newman, Ash Handley, Ryan Hall, Brodie Croft, Mikolaj Oledzki, Andy Ackers, Keenan Palasia, James Bentley, James McDonnell, Cameron Smith, Jarrod O’Connor, Sam Lisone, Morgan Gannon, Cooper Jenkins, Jake Connor, Tom Holroyd, Jack Sinfield, Alfie Edgell, Riley Lumb, Kallum Watkins

Warrington Wolves team news

Sam Burgess has made one change to the 21-man squad he named ahead of the Challenge Cup Final with Matt Dufty dropping out after fracturing his eye socket.

The full-back will undergo surgery and miss “at least two weeks” with Wire set to consider options to replace the Australian.

Replacing him in the squad is Tom Whitehead, though one of the Thewlis brothers or perhaps even Stefan Ratchford could be the man to make the shift to full-back for the forseeable given Cai Taylor-Wray is also missing.

Warrington Wolves 21-man squad: Jordy Crowther, Ben Currie, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, James Harrison, Adam Holroyd, Toby King, Arron Lindop, Joe Philbin, Sam Powell, Stefan Ratchford, Dan Russell, Marc Sneyd, Rodrick Tai, Jake Thewlis, Josh Thewlis, Paul Vaughan, Tom Whitehead, George Williams, Max Wood, Connor Wrench, Luke Yates
