Leeds Rhinos are challenging full-back Lachie Miller’s three-match suspension.
The Australian was banned by the RFL’s match review panel after being charged with a grade E offence of “unnecessary contact with player who is injured or maybe injured” during last Friday’s 24-4 loss at Wigan Warriors.
Miller received 18 penalty points over the incident which involved Wigan’s Oliver Partington. If it stands, he will miss Friday’s visit of Huddersfield Giants, the home clash with St Helens two weeks later and Rhinos’ fixture at Toulouse Olympique on Friday, June 12.
Rhinos coach Brad Arthur confirmed: “We are going to appeal it. Lachie is a person of great character and we want to make sure we are representing his character.
“He is a really good person so we want to appeal. I can’t say too much, we just need to let it run its course.”
The appeal will be heard this afternoon/evening. Last season a failed challenge would have meant another six penalty points, leading to an additional one-game ban, but that is no longer the case.
Arthur added: “He would get more points, but he doesn’t lose a game. We want to support him as a club and we think he has a really good case.”
