Leeds Rhinos winger Maika Sivo put in a stunning four-try performance in the club’s win over Hull KR but he’s given a very humble account of his efforts.
Hull KR were stunned as Leeds ran in ten tries to win 58-6 at Allegiant Stadium, the largest victory that the Rhinos have ever recorded against Hull KR.
A large part of that success was Maika Sivo with the Fijian winger running riot in the first half especially before finishing off his hat-trick and even adding a fourth try in the second half.
Injured in the 2025 pre-season, Leeds fans had to wait for Sivo’s Super League debut but he’s now scored six tries in just two games but when asked about on Fox League’s coverage of the game, the winger gave a very humble answer.
“It’s our job as a winger to finish those opportunities so I did it tonight,” he stated simply, overlooking the fact that he dominated the Hull KR defence throughout, particularly for his second try.
Leeds Rhinos hero Maika Sivo gives verdict after Las Vegas dominance
Few expected such a dominant win but Sivo explained that there had been a focus in the week to ‘make a statement’, something that they certainly did manage to do.
Asked to assess the win, Sivo said: “The focus in the week was to come here and make a statement and we did it tonight.
“The boys, every single one of us, did our job tonight.”
The winger was also keen to praise head coach Brad Arthur, whom he played under at Parramatta in the NRL, with Sivo referring to the Australian as a ‘father figure’.
Sivo said: “He’s been strict with me but at the same time, he’s been like a father figure so it’s good to have those sort of people in your corner, who support you in the highs and the lows.”
As for what comes next, Sivo downplayed matters: “We’ve got to take it week by week and hopefully keep getting the wins and keep celebrating.”
Leeds will return to England and host West Yorkshire rivals Castleford Tigers in round four of Super League.
