Livewire full-back Lachie Miller says Leeds Rhinos won’t be short of ammo when they take on Leigh Leopards in Friday’s crunch Super League clash.
Leigh’s win at Catalans Dragons last Saturday – 24 hours after error-ridden Leeds were beaten 18-4 away to St Helens – lifted them above Rhinos into third place on the table.
Just one point separates the sides, making it one of the biggest games of the campaign so far and Miller admitted the state of the league ladder is just one reason the hosts need to play well after a below-par effort last time out.
“It is a tight league and it was a good reminder to us, a wake-up call and something we need to bounce back from,” the Australian conceded of last week’s loss.
“That game is done and we need to park it and move on – use it as a bit of ammo and fuel and come into Leigh bouncing.”
The most crucial thing Rhinos have to get right is their attitude, according to Miller. He stressed: “Our attitude, from the outset, wasn’t good enough.
“We’ve had some really tough and tight games, Saints is always a hard game and I don’t think we went with the right attitude.
“You can’t do that against any team, let alone Saints. We trained well all week and everyone felt good coming into it, but you can’t start games with a poor attitude, which is what we did.”
Leeds Rhinos man ‘disappointed’ with St Helens’ performance
All Saints’ points came following Rhinos errors and Miller accepted his share of responsibility.
The former sevens rugby union ace has been in impressive form this term and is joint sixth on the Man of Steel leaderboard despite missing the first four Super League rounds through injury.
“I have been pretty happy with the past few weeks, I’ve been doing my job, fitting into the team and feeling really comfortable,” Miller said.
“[Last week] I felt like I was off, I let the team down a couple of times. But it was just one of those games – it is hard to be up for every game, but that’s the sort of standard I want to keep myself to.
“I am a bit disappointed with myself, but we move on from it and I’ll be better this week. I had one [error] where I went to push a player, which was silly.
“It was slippery out there, but I think if you have the right attitude, you don’t make those errors – and we haven’t been making those errors.”
Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Brad Arthur has named his 21 man squad to face Leigh Leopards this Friday at AMT Headingley, kick off 8pm.
