Leeds Rhinos defeated Wakefield Trinity on Saturday but there could be disciplinary repercussions according to one pundit.
Trinity announced themselves as Super League standard when they shocked Leeds Rhinos in Round One at Headingley but Brad Arthur’s side got one back as they won 22-18 on Saturday afternoon.
They were pushed hard for the win though as Daryl Powell’s side cut the 22-6 half-time lead to just four points, with Trinity having ball in hand late on as they bid to secure the comeback win.
Unfortunately for Wakefield, time ran out meaning Leeds Rhinos secured a fourth straight win and moved back into third spot in Super League ahead of the week of for the Challenge Cup Final.
That week off will start with Monday’s Match Review Panel and according to pundit Kevin Brown, Leeds could have cause for concern with the former England international picking out an incident from the first half that went unpunished.
Kevin Brown suggests Leeds Rhinos man was lucky to avoid the sin bin
Leeds’ defence strangled Wakefield during that opening forty and whilst the BBC coverage praised that intent, they also noted a moment where it perhaps strayed.
Put to Kevin Brown that there was a “potential red card”, the former playmaker picked out Keenan Palasia’s booming shot on Josh Rourke as one that should have seen action taken.
“I thought at the very least, it should have been ten minutes,” explained Brown of Palasia’s tackle where he came from around the side to level the Trinity full-back.
Brown explained: “Keenan Palasia bends his back and fair play to Josh Rourke because he gets up but that is flush straight on the jaw.
“It’s brilliant from Josh Rourke for getting up but I think we’ll be hearing more about that in the disciplinary.”
The mitigation of Palasia bending his back and Rourke losing height was certainly present but there was also no denying that it was a high-force shot, and one that had Rourke stayed down from might have seen an intense video referee review. Initial replays on the BBC did seem to show the shot landing towards Rourke’s shoulder/chest, not his head, however all angles will be looked at.
Monday’s Match Review Panel will review the game in full with all incident’s checked meaning it will surely be looked at. As it stands, Palasia sits on 2.5 disciplinary points meaning a Grade C or higher charge would result in a ban.
