Leeds Rhinos survived a second-half scare as they overcame Toulouse Olympique by a score of 48-24 to return to the top of Super League.
Despite opening up a 30-0 lead in the first 35 minutes, Toulouse pulled one back just before half-time and that seemed to spark something in the hosts who brought it back to 30-24 by the hour mark.
Maika Sivo bagged his second to open up a two-score lead and give the Rhinos some breathing room before Chris Hankinson and Cameron Smith scored to seal the win, with Leeds’ performance and the game overall being the very epitome of a game of two halves.
Brodie Croft opened the scoring after two minutes with Maika Sivo scoring the first of his two inside 20 minutes. Fergus McCormack’s try was sandwiched between two for Harry Newman but Leeds still almost managed to throw the lead away.
After holding out for the win, the Rhinos will be grateful to get back to Leeds ahead of next week’s game against second-place Warrington Wolves.

Leeds Rhinos player ratings
Fergus McCormack – 8
Lachie Miller will be back next week but McCormack has given a brilliant account of himself during his time at full-back, including tonight as he bagged himself a try.
Ryan Hall – 5
His carries remain strong but Hall is getting found out of position too often with Benjamin Laguerre having a field day against him.
Harry Newman – 8
Had his blushes spared when the defender read the dummy but he managed to get over before getting another in the first half. Was also on the edge where Toulouse found success.
Ash Handley – 7
Straightened up well to create the space for Sivo’s try. Will find himself in consideration for the Ashes surely.
Maika Sivo – 8
He’s just inevitable isn’t he? There are other wingers who offer more in terms of back-field carries or those who are perhaps better in the air but the man just scores tries.
Brodie Croft – 7
Two minutes in and he was over for his 15th Super League try of the season but it was his playing partner who impressed more.
Jake Connor – 9
His kicking was brilliant in the first half and despite it dipping at times, he still managed to rack up a host of assists, many of which came from the boot.
Mikolaj Oledzki – 8
Carried hard down the middle of the pitch in the heat with his strong run helping set up the late Cameron Smith try.
Jarrod O’Connor – 7
Offers the physicality before Danny Levi helps switch it up.
Keenan Palasia – 8
Such an underrated player through the middle of the park and had another strong display.
Chris Hankinson – 7
Mr Versatile and he got himself a try late on though he may well have also picked up a knock.
James McDonnell – 8
Could have had a try if Harry Newman had passed and it would have been no less then he deserved.
Kallum Watkins – 7
Another typical Kallum Watkins performance from a man who is regularly consistent.
Interchanges
Cooper Jenkins – 9
The offload for the Cameron Smith try was brilliant hands and he’s fast affirming himself as the starting prop for next year when Mikolaj Oledzki leaves.
Danny Levi – 7
Injects some pace and it was much-needed in the final 20 minutes when Leeds were toiling.
Cameron Smith – 7
Got himself a try late on and ran hard.
Presley Cassell – 6
Didn’t play a major role, was unfortunate to be the ball carrier when Henry O’Kane suffered an injury.
