Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield surpasses incredible donation milestone as epic 7 in 7 challenge continues

Kevin Sinfield CBE has now beaten his fundraising target of £777,777 for Motor Neurone Disease-related charities on Day 5 of his incredible ‘7 in 7: Together’ challenge.

The Leeds Rhinos legend is running seven ultramarathons in seven days across seven different cities, as he continues to raise funds to find a cure for MND, the disease that his former teammate and friend, the late great Rob Burrow battled for four and a half years, before passing away in July 2024.

Six MND charities will once again benefit from the challenge. The MND Association are the main beneficiary along with donations to Leeds Hospitals Charity’s support for the Rob Burrow Centre, Irish MND Association, Darby Rimmer Foundation, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and MND Scotland.

This year, Sinfield and his team have opted to go to different locations than they have previously, and decided to run in places that are often overlooked in major events, as to show the MND community that they are seen and heard.

Starting with a route from Bury St Edmunds to Ipswich on day one, he has completed challenges in Wales, Ireland and Sheffield this week, with today’s run taking him to Cumbria.

The weekend will see him travel to Scotland, where he will be running in honour of Rugby Union legend Doddie Weir, who became one of Sinfield’s and Burrow’s great friends once the latter found out about his illness.

On Sunday, he will return to Leeds for the first time since 2023, with the final part of his run being labelled the ‘Santa Dash’. This is where the general public can join Sinfield on his run, all dressed in Santa costumes, and will run from Leeds Beckett University campus to AMT Headingley, where his challenge will finish.

As mentioned, an initial fundraising target of £777,777 was set for the week, and with two days to spare, Sinfield has surpassed that, with the total currently sitting on £792, 300 at the time of writing.
