Leeds Rhinos have released a statement to confirm that Max Simpson has been cleared of serious injury after being stretchered off against Hull FC.
Simpson was making his first Super League appearance in over three years at Hull FC after struggling with a series of lengthy injuries that have stalled his career significantly. However, he stepped into the line-up to replace the injured Ash Handley on Saturday and he looked the part for the Rhinos as he helped them cruise to a 34-0 win at the MKM Stadium.
His afternoon was brought to a premature end with around 15 minutes to go, though, after a nasty collision left him with a neck issue. The Leeds medical team raced to his side and after several minutes of treating him on the field, they carried him off the pitch and down the tunnel on a stretcher.
Speaking after the game, Brad Arthur outlined his belief that the medical staff had acted out of precaution. Nevertheless, the youngster was taken directly to hospital for checks.
And, last night, the club released a statement to confirm that Simpson had been cleared of any serious injury and allowed to return to Leeds.
The statement read: “Leeds Rhinos youngster Max Simpson has been cleared of serious injury and released from hospital to return home after precautionary checks.
“The centre suffered a neck injury in the second half of the 34-0 win at Hull FC. He was playing his first senior game since July 2022 having overcome a number of injuries to be back to full fitness. As a precaution following soreness to his neck, the Rhinos medical team stretchered Simpson from the field and he was taken to hospital in Hull to be checked over. He was released a soon while after to return home to Leeds.
“We would like to thank the Hull FC medical staff who were on hand to offer assistance to the Rhinos own medical team and the ambulance and hospital staff who looked after Max. We would also like to thank the well wishers from both clubs who have been in touch who saw the incident either at the ground or on Sky Sports.”
