The club that Leeds Rhinos’ chief executive Gary Hetherington will join when he departs Headingley has now officially been confirmed with Hetherington’s role revealed.
Leeds Rhinos confirmed in March that their long-serving chief executive would be departing at the end of the season with club legend Jamie Jones-Buchanan set to replace him.
Since then the wheels will have been in motion for the handover that comes after someone has served in a role as long as Hetherington has, first taking on the position in 1996.
He joined the Rhinos 29 years ago as he took over alongside Paul Caddick and during his time in charge, Leeds have had their most successful period in the club’s history.
They claimed eight Super League Grand Finals, four Challenge Cups and three World Club Challenges but Hetherington now heads for a new challenge with London Broncos.
From Leeds Rhinos to London Broncos, Gary Hetherington ‘appointed’ by Championship club
It has been widely known that he would head down to the capital to try and finally help rugby league break through in London but it’s all the more official now with the Broncos registering Hetherington as their new ‘Director’ on the government’s website Companies House.
Documents have confirmed that the outgoing Leeds Rhinos chief executive has been “appointed” as the director at the Championship club with that appointment made on April 29th, just a couple of days ago.
The 71-year-old will provide immense knowledge to the club which will aid them in their bid to return to Super League following last year’s relegation.
Serious About Rugby League also reported in March that Hetherington would be joined by another Leeds Rhinos man with Matt Adamson set to work alongside his former boss.
It is unclear what role Adamson will take on but the pair’s main goal will be to help make London Broncos a Grade A side and earn promotion to Super League.

And it’s that reasoning why the game is dying. Not enough effort was ever put in to growing the sport in this country first. Only ever played at it but never put real time into it in my opinion

Quite correct! Rugby League has been declying now for year, why? this M62 attitude, and a few clubs outside that area in Cumbria, and the North West. Just look at the current Sky TV Contract, that is why many clubs are struggling! the lack of income from Broadcasting! It will decline even further if CHANGE does not come.
