Leeds Rhinos fullback talks his side’s chances in 2025 and the Rhinos’ spine combinations

Leeds Rhinos fullback Lachie Miller scores a try

Leeds Rhinos fullback Lachie Miller was full of praise for both new teammate Kallum Watkins and Huddersfield Giants’ efforts following his side’s 28-6 victory.

Miller himself scored twelve points in the win in a player-of-the-match performance in front of a bumper AMT Headingley crowd.

He shared his thoughts post-match with Sky Sports and noted that despite Huddersfield’s depleted squad at present, they definitely put up a fight.

He said: “That first half, obviously, they’re a good side missing a lot of players so you’ve got to feel for them but we stuck to our plan.

“The only thing we got wrong was that last play, a couple of seven-tackle sets but I thought we did well.

“We kept them to zero in that first half, we built the pressure and fatigued them. Then in the second half, we got a bit of joy.”

Miller also highlighted the Rhinos’ forward pack for getting them field position and noted there are improvements to be made across the squad.

He added: “We’ve been working really hard, we’ve had some injury troubles ourselves in the spine and getting new middles every time, such as Kallum today, who I thought was excellent.

“We’ve got to work on our combinations and execution but to be honest, I thought we were good and we got the points.”

Miller on Watkins’ return and where he sees this Leeds Rhinos team heading in 2025

On Watkins, Miller heaped praise on him, despite only having two sessions with the current Leeds squad, just like his head coach Brad Arthur did.

He said: “He’s been such a great leader for Salford. He’s come in here, he’s obviously been playing for a long time, he knows how to win games and he’s such an instrumental part of us going forward.

“He’s such a great player to have around and we’re very lucky to have him back.”

Looking ahead to the rest of the Super League campaign, Miller remained tight-lipped on Leeds’ chances this season but shared that there’s still a long way to go.

He finished: “We’ve got to take it one game at a time, it’s a cliche but we’re very confident in our ability.

“We’ve obviously got some little tweaks to iron out but we’re working hard on that.

“I feel like our defence is very good and you win premierships off your defence.

“We need to keep building with our combinations and keep at that defence but we’re aiming high.”
