Leeds Rhinos dealt huge blow as Maika Sivo forced off early through injury

Leeds Rhinos have been handed a major blow in their bid win the Super League title after star winger Maika Sivo suffered a suspected broken arm in his side’s win over Bradford Bulls.

Sivo, who has 29 Super League tries already this season and was on pace to threaten the all-time record held by Denny Solomona, left the field after 17 minutes holding his wrist/hand and looking to be in severe pain with the early suggestion from Sky Sports commentator Mark Wilson being that it was a ‘suspected broken arm’.

Leeds boss Brad Arthur spoke post-match to Sky Sports to suggest the same, stating that if that is the case then the Rhinos would be without their star winger for around six weeks.

Leeds were trailing 6-0 when the injury occurred. Sivo, who had barely touched the ball in attack, went to make an impact in defence as he landed a huge shot on Luke Hooley, however, it was the Rhinos winger who came off worse.

Sivo stayed down holding his arm and did not take part in the next set as the medics attended to him with those medics then determining that the winger would have to be subbed off.

As he walked off, still holding his arm , Headingley erupted into cheers of ‘Sivo, Sivo, Sivo’ with those fans surely just hoping that the injury is more of an impact issue than anything more serious such as a broken arm, as suspected.

With Ryan Hall out injured at the moment, it means Leeds are without their first-choice wingers, with Alfie Edgell having started opposite Sivo for today’s match.

The Rhinos were also without Keenan Palasia (foot) and Ash Handley (appendix) for the game whilst they also lost Ben Littlewood to a hamstring injury in the win over the Bulls.
