Leeds Rhinos confirm long-term deals for coaching duo

Leeds Rhinos have continued their spate of securing key men at Headingley with two members of the coaching staff signing new deals.

In a week that has seen them re-sign reigning Super League Man of Steel Jake Connor, the Rhinos have now moved to lock in their coaching staff with assistants Jamie Langley and Scott Grix signing new two-year deals, taking their contracts to at least the end of the 2028 season.

Questions will likely still be asked as we approach the end of the 2026 season regarding the future of head coach Brad Arthur, who only signed a one-year new deal, albeit with options, so locking in Arthur’s assistants is a hugely positive move.

Langley made his return to rugby league last year and brought an immediate impact to Headingley with Leeds’ defence markedly better, as the Rhinos conceded just 310 points across the season, only bettered by treble winners Hull KR.

Meanwhile, Grix has joined ahead of the 2023 season and has also become integral to Brad Arthur’s backroom staff and now the pair of 41-year-olds will remain at Headingley until the end of the 2028 season.

Leeds Rhinos sign coaches to long-term deals

Both men’s new deals were announced by the Rhinos via statement, as they confirmed: “Leeds Rhinos have secured both their assistant coaches, Jamie Langley and Scott Grix, on new two year contract extensions to keep them both at AMT Headingley until at least the end of the 2028 Betfred Super League season, extending their commitment to the club and strengthening the continuity within the coaching and performance team ahead of the new season.”

Speaking on his new deal, Grix said: “I’m excited to be part of us taking the next step and to be eent more competitive again in 2026. We’ve got great continuity in the staff and the playing group, and we’re already seeing in pre-season that we’re picking up where we left off.”

Langley, who only returned from rugby union ahead of the 2025 season, said: “I’m really pleased to be continuing with the Rhinos. We’ve got a brilliant group of players who are hungry to improve, and a coaching team that is aligned and driven. The foundations we’ve laid give us a real platform for success, and I’m excited for what the next three years can bring.”

Head coach Brad Arthur praised the full coaching staff, leading with the pair who had signed extensions: “Scott and Jamie are outstanding operators and key leaders in our environment. Their knowledge, energy and connection with the players are huge assets.

“Chev Walker has done a great job in his role as Transition Coach bringing through our young players into the first team squad whilst Adam Magretton and Charlie Venables ensure that our players are in the best physical condition.

“Our medical team, led by Dave Ferguson, have done great work ensuring our players are available for selection when required whilst John Fletcher is a real asset to all the coaches leading our analysis.”
