Leeds Rhinos coach Brad Arthur was most proud of his side’s defensive display against Hull KR, following their win at Craven Park.
The Rhinos were 8-0 down at half-time, but started the second half brightly and outplayed Rovers in the second forty to claim a 14-8 victory.
Arthur said that they’d tried to learn from their last meeting with Hull KR back in April, where the Rhinos lost 20-14 at AMT Headingley.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Arthur said: “It gives us a bit of momentum, and also helps with the belief. I thought the last time we played these guys, at the 70-minute mark, we were in front, and then we got a few things wrong.
“At least we learned from that tonight. They’re a very, very good side, and you can see why they’re at the top of the table.
“We had that effort throughout the second half and tried to dominate field position, which I thought we did a pretty good job of it.
“Really, I thought our defence in the first half was pretty good too. We come up with a missed tackle for a try, but other than that, defensively, we’ve done a good job against the best-attacking team in the competition.”
Arthur discusses his Leeds Rhinos future and sensational team try
The Leeds Rhinos boss was keen to highlight the second try, where the ball went through multiple players’ hands for Lachie Miller to score.
Arthur added: “It was a great finish, but a bit of credit’s got to go to Lachie, who started the play and then finished it.
“Also, young Alfie (Edgell), he hasn’t had many opportunities for us this year. It’s hard when you come in as a kid to do your job, but he took the game on and he came up with the right play for us.”
Arthur was also coy about his future, giving nothing away about whether he will be the Leeds Rhinos boss further than the end of the 2025 season.
He finished: “I love the job and I’m having a great time week to week. That win helps, but it’s not the reason if I decide to go home or not. Hopefully, we can get closer to a decision by the end of the month.”
The Rhinos win it to move back up to third place. Brilliant battle between two quality teams, we can’t wait for the return at AMT Headingley on 21st August
