Boss Brad Arthur has commented on speculation linking Leeds Rhinos with a move for Hull FC forward Herman Ese’ese and revealed a new season-ending injury.
Rhinos were rumoured to be closing in on 31-year-old former Samoa and New Zealand Test prop Ese’ese, who is contracted to Hull until the end of 2029.
But asked about that at his weekly preview press conference today (Tuesday), Arthur insisted: “He is not coming at this stage.”
The Leeds boss did, however, suggest there could be a new face in his squad before Betfred Super League’s 2026 transfer deadline on August 21.
“There could be something, there could be some movement,” he confirmed.
“We’ve got 10 days, haven’t we? There could be something for us coming.”

Leeds Rhinos boss confirms season-ending injury
Veteran winger Ryan Hall is set to return from a foot injury for Rhinos at home to Leigh Leopards on Thursday, in place of rookie Alfie Edgell.
Edgell was injured during last Friday’s 24-22 win at Wakefield Trinity and Arthur said: “Poor Alfie, his luck has struck again against him.
“In his effort to try and score a try for us the other night he tore his quad. Bravely enough, he was able to play on for us.
“He couldn’t stride out, but he knew he had to stay out there for us. He was able to play the remaining 30 of the second half, but unfortunately for him his season is done.
“But he is a tough kid, he has been there before, he will rehab it and go again.”
Edgell was just two games into his comeback after similar damage to his other leg, sustained last Boxing Day.
“You can’t sugar coat it, it’s just what it is,” Arthur admitted. “We’ll just keep reaffirming to him that every time he has got his opportunity he has made the most of it.
“His luck will change at some stage if he makes it change, in terms of staying strong.
“It can’t happen to him forever, he is only young, he has got plenty of time
“The club has invested their time in him so it’s not like he is playing for a contract or anything.
“He can just be patient and rehab it and do all the right things and get another chance next year.
“He is such a good person. Everyone’s really shattered for him, but we know he’s strong and we know he will fight hard to get himself back.”
