The hopes of Featherstone Rovers fans will be increased, after the club’s latest update boosts their chances of a remontada in 2027.
The Rovers’ off-field issues towards the end of 2025, which saw them enter administration in December, meant that the club needed to find new owners if they were to compete in this year’s Championship competition.
Whilst there was consortium who one applied to take over, the RFL rejected that offer due to the similarities in personnel between the old and proposed ownership group.
With no other bids coming forwards, Featherstone were denied entry into the 2026 campaign, meaning, in what is the first time since 1920, there will be a rugby league campaign without the club involved.
However, there is still hope, and the club’s latest update confirms that notion.
Posted on X, Featherstone revealed that the RFL will continue to keep any takeover applications open until September 2026, and if a successful one emerges, the club will be able to compete in the 2027 season.
Whilst there are still no confirmed bids to the sport’s governing body just yet, there have been whispers of a potential consortium looking to run the club, and that Paul Cooke will be involved.
The former Hull KR and FC man was coach of the club in 2025, and a just under a fortnight ago released a statement confirming his intentions to be involved in the new ownership.
Should the Rovers have new leaders by the September deadline, the club will then have a full pre-season to get a squad, kits, sponsorships etc. sorted before they return to the field.
@TheRFL have advised that they will continue to welcome submissions for a new @FevRoversRLFC membership until the end of Sept 2026
Whilst there has been interest there are no submissions to report yet but we remain very confident the Club will be back for the 2027 Season
