Details of the final 7 in 7 Challenge that Kevin Sinfield CBE will take part in have been confirmed with the rugby league legend and MND fundraiser set to run to all 12 English Super League grounds, before then making an appearance at the Super League Grand Final.
What started as a promise to a mate that he would help raise some funds to raise awareness and combat Motor Neurone Disease has grown into so much more, with Kevin Sinfield now a household name for his unbelievable charitable work.
Much of that has been focused on the number seven, the shirt number of teammate Rob Burrow, for whom Sinfield started running, and now the plans have been confirmed for the seventh and final 7 in 7 Challenge.
As has been the case previously, Sinfield will run seven ultra-marathons in seven consecutive days but he will revisit his Super League roots with the route set to see him attend every UK Super League stadium, before his finish at the Grand Final.
Kevin Sinfield confirms route for 7 in 7: The Grand Finale
A statement shared on the MND Association website confirming the route and plan announced: “Once again, the 7 in 7 team will complete an ultra-marathon every day for seven days starting on 27th September at the home of Rugby League World Club champions Hull KR. They’ll visit each of the home grounds for the 12 English Betfred Super League clubs before finishing on the pitch at Old Trafford ahead of the Betfred Super League Grand Final in front of 70,000 fans.”
Speaking on BBC Breakfast about the challenge, Sinfield, said: “[The last few years] have flown by. It has been a rollercoaster at times through the families we’ve met – so beautiful and warm, and yet so tough and tragic at times. We’ve seen support right across the home nations and people have been awesome. The money has gone a long way and we’re getting closer and closer, but we’ve got to keep pushing. We’ve got to try and find a cure.”
Thus far, his efforts have helped raise over £11 million for MND Charities with the hope being that even more will be raised this September and October.
The route will begin at Craven Park on September 27th with the MKM Stadium also attended on day one, whilst York Knight’s LNER Stadium will be taken in on day two. Both Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity will be visited on day three before Headingley, Odsal and the Accu Stadium on day four.
Kevin Sinfield then crosses the Pennines and takes in his hometown before, day six sees him attend St Helens, Leigh Leopards, and Wigan Warriors. The final day, Saturday 3rd October, will see Sinfield attend Warrington’s ground before concluding at Old Trafford for the Super League Grand Final.
