Judah Rimbu signs with new club 24 hours after Castleford Tigers’ release

Former Castleford Tigers man Judah Rimbu has signed with a new club just 24 hours after his release from the Super League side.

Rimbu signed with the Tigers ahead of the 2025 season and came in with rave reviews, particularly after impressing in the end of season internationals for Papua New Guinea.

Despite that, Rimbu failed to make the desired impact with Liam Horne and Cain Robb appearing to be the Tigers’ preferred options at nine as Castleford made the decision to release Rimbu.

That confirmation came on Saturday after the hooker was left out of the squad to face Hull FC, whilst head coach Danny McGuire had also confirmed during the week that a decision would be made very soon.

A statement from the Tigers on Saturday read: “Castleford Tigers hooker Judah Rimbu has been released from his contract by mutual agreement so he can pursue other playing opportunities.

“The 23-year-old joined the Tigers on a two-year deal in 2024 from Queensland Cup side PNG Hunters.”

Former club PNG Hunters have now confirmed his return.

Released Castleford Tigers man returns to former club

The Hunters, who played in the Queensland Cup, have provided an update that they have re-signed Rimbu following his Castleford Tigers’ exit.

A statement from the club read: “PNG Hunters are pleased to officially announce the return of Judah Rimbu to the club for the remainder of the 2025 Hostplus Cup season.

“Rimbu, who last year was honoured with the 2024 QRL Petero Civoniceva Medal, recognising him as the competition’s best and fairest returns to Papua New Guinea following a short stint with English Super League club Castleford Tigers. The Tigers released Rimbu as part of a mid-season restructuring of their playing roster.”

Head coach Paul Aiton said: “I am happy to have Judah back for the rest of the season. He’s a quality player, he brings energy to the club and the boys love to have him around. This is his home, we’re like family, and his presence will definitely make an impact on the squad.”

As for Rimbu, he said: “While things didn’t work out as planned in the UK, I’m determined to come back home, work hard and help the team have another successful season, hoping to build on what we did last year.”

The 23-year-old is expected to land Down Under in the coming days and reunite with hi former club.
