Jon Wilkin launches extraordinary Catalans Dragons rant after red card with Luke Keary called out

Hull KR

Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin has launched into Catalans Dragons over their attitude after their dismal showing versus Hull KR.

Speaking at half-time of Catalans’ dismal showing against the Robins, Wilkin pulled no punches as he tore into the Dragons who put in one of the worst Super League performances in memory.

The scores were level until around 15 minutes with Catalans well in the game but a late shot on Mikey Lewis gave Hull KR territory and ill-discipline being the undoing of the Dragons became a theme of the game.

At 18-0 after just 22 minutes, Franck Maria went high on Sauaso Sue to send Catalans down to twelve and in the following minutes, Benjamin Garcia ‘lost the plot’, in the words of Kyle Amor, as he lashed out at Elliot Minchella and then threw another punch to earn himself a red card.

Hull KR would add on 20 more points in the first half as they punished a woeful Catalans and Jon Wilkin made his thoughts clear at half-time, tearing into the French outfit over their lack of attitude.

He said: “It’s an exhibition from Hull KR but there are two sides here. Hull KR came here expecting a tough game but they’ve not got that, they’ve not been given that.

“That’s been taken away from them by the absolutely abhorrent Catalans Dragons, who have been disgraceful.”

Catalans Dragons star Luke Keary “clearly on holiday” as Wilkin hits out at attitude

On Garcia’s red card, which simply opened the floodgates, Wilkin was almost defending the Dragons’ skipper as he dug out the rest of the Catalans’ squad with particular aim towards two NRL recruits.

“As a man who has been nearly flawless for 10 years of his career, to react like that, that’s frustration,” Wilkin reasoned.

“That is a man who has played with such discipline and integrity throughout his career just showing the ultimate frustration given the doldrums that Catalans find themselves in.”

Asked for the explanation why Garcia reacted as he did, Wilkin said: “You know why Ben Garcia does that?  Because he’s the only guy having a crack and he’s been the only guy having a crack for four months.

“He’s playing with people like Tevita Pangai Jr and Luke Keary, who is clearly here on a holiday and just here for a pay cheque.

“They’ve got too many players who they are carrying in terms of their attitude. Their attitude stinks and it has stunk for ages and that’s the problem. Ben Garcia is carrying the weight of expectations on his shoulders and has reacted in frustration because of his teammates who just don’t care.”
