Leeds Rhinos head coach, Brad Arthur, has given an update on star player Jake Connor, after the halfback was forced to leave the field tonight against Huddersfield Giants.
The Rhinos enjoyed a 26-0 win over the Giants, as second half tries from Morgan Gannon, Brodie Croft and Mikolaj Oledzki gave Leeds the win.
However, their celebrations will be marred by the fact that key playmaker and England hopeful Jake Connor had to exit the action, following a knock he picked up earlier in the game.
In what looked like a not-so-forceful collision, Connor was chasing his own kick when two Giants players blocked his path, knocking the former Huddersfield man to the floor.
The 30-year-old carried on for the rest of the first half, where he slotted over two penalty goals, and the opening ten of the second before having to come off and be assessed.
Rhinos coach Brad Arthur spoke to the press after his side’s win, and gave an update on his key man.
“It’s his ribs,” said the 50-year-old. “He wanted to continue but there was no need. We took the decision out of his hands. He’ll probably have to have a scan, but I’d say it’s rib cartilage. He’s sore, he might be a week or he might be all right.”
The Rhinos face Catalans Dragons next week, in what is their final home game of the regular season. However, after tonight’s win and a victory next week, they would all but confirm a home playoff game, if not a home semi-final.
The performance was definitely not Leeds’ best, but it was another grinding win and for the second time in as many weeks they kept their opponents scoreless. Arthur praised his side’s effort in defence, but admitted they need to improve with ball in hand.
He said: “It was an ugly win. We got some good habits around finding ways to win, which is pleasing. I was pleased with our defence, but our attack lacked intent. Execution and timing was a bit down and we were a bit scrappy with the ball. It wasn’t great, but it’s hard to win every week and we’ve got to enjoy it.”
