“It’s a reflection of the attitude”: Leeds Rhinos boss laments his side following St Helens loss

Leeds Rhinos boss Brad Arthur

Leeds Rhinos boss Brad Arthur has questioned his players’ attitudes following their defeat to St Helens on Friday night.

They looked a shadow of their form we’ve become used to in recent weeks, and their head coach was far from impressed with their efforts.

Losing 18-4 isn’t usually a huge victory, but the Rhinos really struggled across the park, with some lacklustre attacking efforts.

Arthur spoke to Sky Sports after the match, stating that his side will be going back to basics after this defeat.

He said: “There are too many things to talk about what went wrong. We didn’t do the simple things right, and often, when there are too many things that you get wrong, it’s a reflection of the attitude.

“They (St Helens) had a great attitude, they turned up, and we took the game too lightly.”

He admitted that perhaps his side had gotten a little complacent going into the game, seeking their sixth victory in a row.

He added: “It’s a good kick up the backside and we need a good response from it, so eighty minutes can be really cruel sometimes, but it’s what you do on the back of it.

“Our response is going to be really important moving forward.

“Maybe we think we’re going better than we are, so we need to look at it and get back to the simple things, and that’s going to be a priority now.”

However, the Leeds Rhinos boss didn’t think it was too much cause for concern as they hope to bounce back immediately when they host Leigh Leopards next Friday, which is not going to be an easy fixture for his side.

He finished: “It’s eighty minutes, it’s an easy fix, and we need to do it next week.”
